Oh Yeah, That’s Why…

Occasionally I’m reminded of why I moved to South Florida. My father called me this morning and told me about the 24 inches of snow they received last night. Made me feel pretty good riding my bike around the neighborhood with 75° temperature.

Christmas Story (Nick)

Station WagonThis is a story of a Christmas past…
I’m not exactly sure what year this was, I’m thinking it was around 1985/86 and my family was living in Bethel Park, just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was Christmas Eve and we were going to the evening mass at our church, which was minutes from the house. Gathered to go to church were my mom and dad, my brother Bill(9), sister Beth(4) and me (I was around 11 or 12 years old at the time). We packed ourselves into the light blue family station wagon, got to the church early to get a good parking space, and more importantly seats. Continue reading

Dad’s Man Crush

September 17, 2009 | Randy Senneway

Hugh JackmanI recently watched the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman. Watching this movie reminded me of a family trip to New York City in January 2004… when my father fell in love with Hugh Jackman. It all began withThe Boy from Oz, dad and I got discount tickets to see the show at the TKTS box office. My dad wasn’t sure what to expect of the show but I could tell from the first time Hugh danced his way across the stage that he was smitten. Days after the show, he was still talking about what a wonderful performance he had witnessed. At first I wasn’t sure what to call it, man-crush wasn’t a common term at the time, but for my dad anything relating to Hugh was a BIG EVENT. If he was taping a segment on The View, dad was sure to be taping it. Appearances on Letterman or Leno, dad was watching it. When Hugh hosted the Tony Awards, it was like a holiday. In the end my family just came to accept that my dad was in love with a man, and his name is Hugh.

By the way, Wolverine was a crappy movie.
